My son in law, American Farmer

The following article made the front page of the Jacksonville Journal Courier this morning..
Thankful that Adam and the others were not hurt.

"A large field fire flared Wednesday just outside of Jacksonville.

About 4:50 p.m., the South Jacksonville and Alexander fire departments were called to the fire in the 1700 block of York Road.

Resident Adam York said he was operating combine when his partner, who was operating a quad-track tractor with a grain cart, said he noticed a burning smell.

Debris had gotten into the track of the tractor and became hot enough that it caused fire to spread to the dry field around it.

They attempted to put out the fire with the available extinguishers, but it was spreading too fast.

Embers kicked up by the wind also landed in other parts of the field and started a couple of other fires.

Before firefighters arrived, several of York’s neighbors came out to help. He said anyone who had a plow or disk implement arrived to turn the soil to smother the fire.

Once the blaze was under control, York said he believed he lost about 15 acres of corn.

“I’m just glad all the neighbors and everybody helped out,” York said. “All the neighbors and firefighters. ... It was pretty bad, but I thought it was going to be worse. I thought this whole place was going to burn up.”
